News Broadway's Phantom Calls On Fan Artists to Re-Design Iconic Mask Producers Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group announced a multi-tiered art contest inviting fans of the musical Phantom of the Opera and all artists across the country to submit original artwork on a template of the legendary Phantom’s mask – with winners to be displayed in an exhibit at the Phantom Art Gallery and Pop Up Shop at the Paramount Hotel (235 W. 46th Street).

The first phase of the contest will feature artists registering on the Phantom Facebook page and submitting a two-dimensional design on the template of the mask. 26 winners, in honor of the New York production’s record-breaking 26 year run – the longest-running Broadway musical in history – will then have the chance to recreate their designs on a three-dimensional replica mask that will be sent out to them by the production.

Five of the final 26 designs will be selected as Grand Prize winners by members of the cast and creative team in early October.

All 26 masks will be auctioned off with proceeds to support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Users may upload submissions through Aug. 24, and winners will be announced Sept. 1.
