The birthday will be mentioned from the stage of the Majestic Theatre at the matinee and evening performances. Phantom, based on the Gaston Leroux novel, won seven 1988 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The London production opened first, spawning the Broadway staging.

The musical tells the story of a masked musical genius who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, controlling all above. He falls in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star. The score includes some of Lloyd Webber's best-known songs, including "Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," "Masquerade," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and the title song.

The Broadway cast currently features Hugh Panaro in the title role with Sara Jean Ford as Christine and Sean MacLaughlin as Raoul with George Lee Andrews (Monsieur Andre), David Cryer (Monsieur Firmin), Liz McCartney (Carlotta), Cristin J. Hubbard (Madame Giry), Evan Harrington (Piangi) and Heather McFadden (Meg Giry). At certain performances, Marni Raab plays Christine.

The long-running national tour closed in fall 2010. A Prince-directed version of the show, immersive and running 90 minutes, is playing in Las Vegas.

The musical features a score by Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart and a book by Richard Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber. Gillian Lynne choreographed.
