As previously reported, BAM's theatrical program includes the Chichester Festival Theatre production of King Lear, starring three-time Tony Award winner Frank Langella, which will play Jan. 7-Feb. 9, 2014, at the Harvey Theater. It is directed by Angus Jackson and designed by Robert Innes Hopkins.
The cast will also feature Sebastian Armesto, Max Bennett, Denis Conway, Isabella Laughland, Catherine McCormack, Harry Melling, Lauren O'Neil, Steven Pacey, Rob Heaps, Tom Mothersdale, Chu Omambala, Michael Sheldon, Parth Thakerar, Tim Treloar and Alan Vicary.
Isabella Rossellini will present the New York premiere of Green Porno: Live on Stage Jan. 16-19. Adapted from the Sundance Channel series of the same title, Green Porno offers "a cheeky, delightful zoology lesson." Featuring text by French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, Rossellini "acts out a panoply of reproductive oddities: the praying mantis that consumes its partner while copulating; the male bee who loses his penis in the act; and the shrimp, whose foreplay involves it shimmying seductively out of its shell."
The Young Vic's acclaimed staging of Ibsen's A Doll's House, starring Hattie Morahan as Nora, will run Feb. 21-March 16. Directed by Carrie Cracknell and adapted by Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens, the production follows two sold-out runs and a West End transfer.
Baryshnikov and Dafoe will team up for The Old Woman, which is directed and designed by Robert Wilson and will run June 22-29. It is based on the Daniil Kharms novella. According to BAM, "Wilson's The Old Woman, adapted by Darryl Pinckney, incorporates visual elements of the novella—a stylized oversize suitcase, railway tracks, a clock—while also melding elements of some of Kharms’ other short stories and deploying Baryshnikov and Dafoe to represent two sides of the writer’s corkscrewed mind." Also offered will be the U.S. premiere of Michael Grandage's production of Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd, Feb. 7-13. The cast features Mark Padmore, Jacques Imbrailo, Brindley Sherratt, Stephen Gadd and David Soar.
