Bruce Matthews unveils his production of Shakespeare's Othello at the Stella Adler Theatre April 20, with Abner Genece in the lead role. Mary Dryden portrays Desdemona and Frank Simons the role of Iago. The run is through May 28.

Matthews has previously directed at the International City Theatre in Long Beach and has appeared in numerous classical plays throughout the L.A. area. "I see Iago as Shakespeare's most graphic representation of Satan on earth and Desdemona as the closest thing to Christ on earth," he said. "Othello is a man caught in the middle, between good and evil. He seeks good but finds the evil.

Others in Matthews' cast include Don Altman, David Barry, Chas Mitchell, Peter G. Morse, Michael Patrick O'Neill, Andrea Pandazedes, Robert Stephen Ryan, Tim Siumek, Pattie Tierce and Derik Van Derbeken.
