News Carmello to Replace Mazzie in London Kiss Me, Kate in June

The American stars of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate — Brent Barrett, Michael Berresse and Nancy Anderson — have extended their contracts at the Victoria Palace until August 24.

When Marin Mazzie leaves the show at the completion of her contract, Carolee Carmello will play the role of Lilli Vanessi/Katharine for four weeks only from June 3-29, and Rachel York will then play the part from July 1-24 August 24.

On August 26 a full British company will take to the stage.

Carolee Carmello succeeded Mazzie in the now-closed Broadway production of Kiss Me, Kate, and she is currently starring in the Paper Mill Playhouse staging of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I. Carmello's other Broadway credits include City of Angels, Falsettos, 1776 and Parade, earning a Tony nomination for her work in the latter.

Rachel York has been playing Kate to critical acclaim in the American tour of Kiss Me, Kate. She has starred in many stage roles, including the Broadway productions of The Scarlet Pimpernel and Victor/Victoria.
