News   Cast and Creative Team Set for Alley's Cyrano de Bergerac
Casting is now complete for the Alley Theatre staging of Cyrano de Bergerac, starring Jeffrey Bean, Elizabeth Heflin and Josie de Guzman.

As previously reported, Bean stars in the title role of Edmond Rostand's romantic classic that will now begin performances Oct. 8. Cyrano was originally scheduled to begin Oct. 3, but was delayed due to Houston's recovery following Hurricane Ike. There will be no official opening for the production that runs through Nov. 2.

Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd stages Brian Hooker's adaptation. The cast also features Elizabeth Heflin as Roxane, Justin Doran as Christian, John Tyson as Ragueneau, James Black as Le Bret, Todd Waite as De Guiche and Tony nominee Josie de Guzman as The Duenna with James Belcher as Ligniere, Elizabeth Bunch as The Orange Girl, Bettye Fitzpatrick as Mother Marguerite, Paul Hope as Montfleury, Chris Hutchison as Valvert, Philip Lehl as Marquis 2, Emily Neves as Sister Claire, Melissa Pritchett as Lise and David Rainey as Cuigy.

Press notes for the Alley production read: "The soulful poet/philosopher and dazzling swordsman Cyrano falls for the lovely Roxane, but ashamed of his large nose, Cyrano is unable to woo her. Instead, when he learns that Roxane loves the handsome but inarticulate Christian, Cyrano writes love letters to Roxane on Christian's behalf. She falls deeply in love with the author of the letters, unaware that Cyrano penned them."

Designing Cyrano are Hugh Landwehr (scenic design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), Rui Rita (lighting design), Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (musical composition and sound design) and Brian Byrnes (fight direction).

Tickets are available by visiting or by calling (713) 220-5700. The Alley Theatre is located at 615 Texas Avenue in Houston, TX.
