News Casting Announced for NYMF's Le Cabaret Grimm, A Punk Cabaret Fairy Tale Le Cabaret Grimm, described as "a punk cabaret fairy tale {sans fairies} adapted from 'Tales of the Brothers Grimm'," will be presented as part of the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) beginning July 23 at the 45th Street Theatre.

The production, featuring music by Cassandra Marsh with a book and lyrics by Jason Slavick, will continue through July 28. Slavick will direct, and Marsh will be the music director.

The cast of the new musical will feature Haley Selmon (A Midsummer Night's Dream at Stratford-Upon-Avon), Ashley Lanyon, Ryan Overberg (Hairspray national tour), Jenna Schoen, Brandon Timmons, Bart Mather, Mervyn Beckett and Allesandra Vaganek.

Le Cabaret Grimm, according to press notes, "tells the story of a young girl thrust into the dark wood who travels the world to save her enchanted prince. Le Cabaret Grimm is darkly comic adult fairy tale of love, loss, unfairness and wishes. It is where Weimar cabaret meets tattoos and piercings, with a score ranging from torch song to ska, and masks, puppets and dance."

Slavick and Marsh wrote Le Cabaret Grimm with a student ensemble in 2008. The musical has been performed with Liars & Believers and at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Other members of the creative team include choreographer Michelle Chasse, mask designer Eric Bornstein, puppet designers Alexandra Carporale and Tyler Brown, lighting designer Aaron Sherkow, costume designer Kendra Bell, production stage manager Marc Ewart, assistant stage manager Erica Prance and assistant to the director Rebecca Leifer. Now in its ninth year, the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), which provides a launching pad for the next generation of musicals, is the largest annual musical theatre event in America.

The 45th Street Theatre is located at 354 West 45th Street. For more information and tickets, call (212) 352-3101 or visit NYMF.org or LeCabaretGrimm.com.
