Though Zeta-Jones became an international star after film roles in “The Mask of Zorro” and “High Fidelity,” the Welsh actress got her professional start in musicals. While still a teenager, she landed the lead in a London production of 42nd Street. She first strutted her musical stuff for a mass audience as Velma Kelly in the film version of “Chicago,” so her return to the stage is a natural. As sultry actress Desiree Armfeldt, Zeta-Jones delivers A Little Night Music’s most famous song, “Send in the Clowns.”
A Little Night Music, directed by Trevor Nunn and co-starring Broadway legend Angela Lansbury, opened Dec. 13 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
