Classic Arts News Chanticleer Launches Holiday Tour in North Carolina The vocal group Chanticleer kicks off a 22-concert holiday tour tonight, performing at the First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, North Carolina.
The San Francisco-based, all-male ensemble performs a program of carols, spirituals, and sacred music on the tour, which travels through North Carolina and Virginia before moving to New York City, Chicago, and California.

The tour coincides with the re-release of the group's 1990 Christmas album Our Heart's Joy, which has been remastered and augmented with several tracks from the 1991 album Psallite! A Renaissance Christmas.

Chanticleer was founded in 1978 by Louis Botto to sing the then-neglected choral repertoire of the medieval and Renaissance periods, and has been directed by Joseph Jennings since 1983. Its repertoire now includes spirituals and gospel music, pop music, opera, and contemporary classical music, including many commissioned works.
