Tony Award-nominated Hair and Porgy and Bess director Diane Paulus will stage Pippin, which will incorporate movement and acrobatics by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers). In addition to its new physical approach, Pippin will retain Fosse's iconic original moves, thanks to Walker's expertise.
Walker is the creator of Fosse and also restaged Fosse's work on a "high concept" London revival of Pippin at the Menier Chocolate Factory earlier this year. His most recent New York production was Heatwave, a new revue showcasing the work of late choreographer Jack Cole.
The musical is currently undergoing a developmental workshop in Cambridge, MA, through Aug. 19. A.R.T. would not confirm casting, but previous reports stated that Tony and Oliver Award nominee Patina Miller (Sister Act, Hair) is portraying the Leading Player, with Damon Daunno (Brief Encounter) as Pippin. Tony-nominated theatre couple Terrence Mann (Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel) and Charlotte D'Amboise (Chicago, Carrie) are King Charles and Fastrada, respectively.
The new production, for which casting has not been announced, will begin previews Dec. 5 towards a Jan. 3, 2013, opening. Performances are scheduled through Jan. 20, 2013.
Pippin has a score by Academy Award winner and Tony nominee Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, "The Prince of Egypt") and a book by Tony nominee Roger O. Hirson. Pippin features such songs as "Corner of the Sky," "Magic To Do," "With You," "Glory," "No Time at All," "Morning Glow" and "Love Song."
