CHICAGO -- Shattered Globe Theatre has extended its critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina through Mar. 4. The adaptation, by English playwright Helen Edmundson, departs from previous treatments by giving equal time to Anna (and her harrowing tale of illicit love) and Levin (the Tolstoy surrogate who wants to return to simplicity and the soil).
Louis Contey's staging features only eight actors but they strive to conjure up a full-blooded novel with little left out.
