CHICAGO -- Continuing the success of its 1997 revivals of Golden Boy and Our Town, Steppenwolf Theatre's Arts Exchange Program (which presents plays for young audiences) will offer the controversial The Boiler Room. Opening May 2, Reuben Gonzalez' family-oriented offering depicts a troubled immigrant family living in the boiler room in a Latino tenement and wrestling with an uncertain future and a troubled past. The director is Edward Torres, artistic director of Chicago's Hispanic troupe Teatro Vista and this year's recipient of NOW Entertainment's "Outstanding Latino Theater Artist" award.
