CHICAGO--On May 21, Chicago's Famous Door Theatre Company will launch the American premiere of Beautiful Thing, London playwright Jonathan Harvey's brutally vivid 1993 play. The drama, which played the West End's Duke of York Theatre in 1994 and has been made into a film by Island World Productions, depicts the awakening love between two teenagers growing up in the working- class council estates of southeast London. Gary Griffin directs the gritty naturalism at the Theatre Building.
