Toronto native Chilina Kennedy, who has played the title role in Broadway's Beautiful—The Carole King Musical over 1,000 times, will return to her hometown next month to play the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter in the first national tour of the hit musical.
Kennedy will portray King April 9–May 5 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The actor previously took a brief hiatus from the Broadway company to headline the show in Toronto in summer 2017.
“I am so excited to be coming home to Toronto to play Carole King in Beautiful, this time at the Princess of Wales Theatre. I love this show and I think audiences will be blown away by both the music and the powerful story,” she said in a statement.
With a book by Tony and Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, and choreography by Josh Prince, Beautiful features an array of songs written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil—all portrayed on stage. The musical features over two-dozen pop classics, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman.”
