The festival begins in July in the city of Foshan, and will train students of classical instruments and the voice.
In the future, according to conductor Yu Long, traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu will also be taught at the school.
Charles Dutoit, renowned conductor and former music director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France, has been appointed the music director of the school. Chantal Juillet, Claus Peter Flor, and Gary Graffman are also associated with the school.
Cao Chunliang, head of the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Department, said, "The festival, similar to the famous Tanglewood and Aspen music schools of the United States, will be the first large-scale annual international professional music summer camp ever held in China or Southeast Asia."
