Classic Arts News Cincinnati Symphony Names Principal Hornist Cincinnati Symphony music director Paavo J‹rvi has appointed John Zirbel the orchestra's next principal hornist, the CSO announced.
Zirbel has been the principal hornist of the Montreal Symphony, where musicians are currently on strike, since 1979. He will split his 2005-06 season between Cincinnati and Montreal and take up his new position full time at the beginning of 2006-07.

Zirbel performed with the CSO as a guest principal in two subscription weekends and a concert at Carnegie Hall during this past season.

Before coming to Montreal, Zirbel was a member of the Denver Symphony Orchestra.
