The panel will select 18 musicals — two-thirds of the festival's offerings. The festival's other musicals for will be selected by invitation. The deadline for submissions has been extended to March 8.
Five members of the committee have won Tony Awards — Clark (Best Actress in a Musical for The Light in the Piazza), Wong (Best Actor in a Play for M. Butterfly), Lion (Best Musical for producing Hairspray, plus other Tonys), Epstein (Best Musical for producing Hairspray) and Sheinkin (Best Book of a Musical for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). Nicholaw has been nominated three times, for directing and choreographing The Drowsy Chaperone and choreographing Spamalot. Nicholaw recently directed Clark in the Encores! revival of Follies.
This year will be the fourth annual edition of the NYMF. The festival originated several shows that got subsequent commercial productions, including Altar Boyz, [title of show], The Great American Trailer Park Musical, The Big Voice: God or Merman and Gutenberg! The Musical.
