The Cleveland Play House will open its 2001-02 season on its new fifth stage, the three-quarter thrust stage named the Baxter in September. Designed by CPH production manager Joseph Martin, the new stage takes original Bolton Theatre architect Philip Johnson’s design a step further. The Baxter Stage is described in production notes as the same stage used for performances in the Bolton Theatre, however “when the Baxter is in use, patrons will actually sit on the stage.”

The 300-seat arrangement allows patrons to surround the action on three sides.

CPH’s eight-play season will now appear on The Baxter, The Drury, and the Bolton. CPH’s Children’s Series will run in the Brooks Theatre and Studio One.
