Classic Arts News Composer Hanspeter Kyburz Receives Roche Commission Roche has commissioned Swiss composer Hanspeter Kyburz to write a new work for the Cleveland Orchestra, the pharmaceutical company announced.
The commission is the third in an ongoing collaboration between Roche, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival, and Carnegie Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra will premiere the resulting work at the Lucerne Festival on September 2, 2006. The orchestra will then bring the work to Carnegie Hall for its American debut, tentatively scheduled for October 5, 2006.

According to a statement from Roche, Kyburz hopes to use the commission to "realize a long-cherished dream of composing a work for voices and orchestra."

The previous Roche Commissions have gone to Harrison Birtwistle and Chen Yi, whose Si Ji premiered in Lucerne last week.
