While Sweet Smell of Success is pounding it out on the boards uptown, film and theatre fans can catch the classic that inspired the Broadway show at New York's Film Forum March 15-28. The 1957 film stars Burt Lancaster as evil gossip columnist J.J. Hunsecker and Tony Curtis as a toadying press agent, Sidney Falco. The new Marvin Hamlisch-Craig Carnelia-John Guare musical has TV and film's John Lithgow as Hunsecker and Titanic's James as Sidney. Sweet Smell of Success, directed by Nicholas Hytner, opened March 14 at the Martin Beck Theatre. A cast album will be recorded March 17.
