Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly lands at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston April 23-May 23. Rob Ruggiero (Valerie Harper's All Under Heaven) directs.

When Pigs Fly tells the tale of Howard (a character not unlike Mr. Crabtree), who is in charge of putting together an over-the-top revue but finds himself going over hurdles and combating negative attitudes. The situation is further worsened when Mrs. Roundhole, his high school guidance counselor keeps popping up to warn him of the pitfalls of the career he's chosen. When asked if she thinks Howard will make good on his theatrical career, she retorts "When Pigs Fly!" The show must go on and it does with more than fifteen original musical numbers with five men portraying everyone from two ladies of the French court to a plumber to a grown up Annie Warbucks. And in the end, Howard follows his heart.

Lyric's Pigs features all 63 costumes from the original Off Broadway production, which won 1997 Outer Critics Circle Awards for Off-Broadway Musical and costume design; Drama Desk Awards for Off Broadway revue and costume design, a Lucille Lortel Award for costume design, and an all-around OBIE.

Veteran Lyric performers Dan Bolton (Howard), Peter A. Carey, Neil A. Casey, Scott Fisher and Britton White appear. Steven Bergman (Lyric's Whoop-Dee-Doo!) musical directs.

Tickets are $30-$20 and available by calling (617) 437-7172. The Lyric Stage Company is located at 140 Clarendon Street. -- By Christine Ehren and David Lefkowitz
