Former clients like Tony winners Duncan Sheik, Julie White and Marty Richards show up to extol the virtues of Bernstein's genius. It appears that after several decades and 63 Tony Award wins, the 2007 Broadway theater season brings the pint size but powerful guru out of self-imposed hiding to share his secret methods with the world and one lucky Broadway production (he only chooses one per season, if that). Enter Xanadu, the award-winning, Tony-nominated but unlikely Broadway hit that has the industry asking, "how did this happen" and "could it actually win Best Musical"? Against all odds the producers of Xanadu beg Cubby for his assistance. But hope seems lost until Cubby relents to see the show for himself. Its off to the Tony season races when after the show Cubby exclaims his famous battle cry, "I smell a Tony!" What follows is a series of formerly top-secret training exercises involving unusual elements such as cup-cakes, bubonic plague benefits, role-playing, psychotropic medication and sporting names like 'The Bar Central Run.' Stars like Cynthia Nixon, Nathan Lane and Patti LuPone join Cubby in his quest to win Xanadu's Best Musical Tony Award. As they get closer to the big night, the comedy and the drama intensifies, building to a surprising, supernatural twist."
