"Cyndi," which will be executive-produced by Mark Burnett, has received a 12-episode order and will start production next month for a summer launch.
The series will chronicle the personal and professional life of Lauper, who has been married to actor David Thornton for 20 years and has a 13-year-old son.
Singer-songwriter Lauper, who was seen on Broadway in Threepenny Opera, is known for her offbeat '80s style and such tunes as "True Colors," "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." As previously reported, the musical Kinky Boots, which features music and lyrics by Lauper, will get a pre-Broadway tryout this fall at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre. The world-premiere run will begin in Chicago in October, followed by a 2013 Broadway life.
