Glee and Hedwig star Darren Criss will host a multimedia companion viewing experience that will take at-home viewers behind the scenes of NBC’s December 7 broadcast of Hairspray Live!
The live event, which airs at 8 PM ET, is packed with stars, including Broadway original lead Harvey Fierstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Ariana Grande, Martin Short, Sean Hayes, and Jennifer Hudson.
Starting at 7:30 PM ET, Criss will join Chenoweth and Hayes for the 30-minute NBC special The Countdown to Hairspray Live! Criss will also appear throughout the broadcast to give at-home viewers updates on backstage action from the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles.
Viewers can also follow along on Facebook, where Criss will host a multi-camera Facebook Live event that will stream for the entirety of the three-hour TV broadcast. The Facebook Live viewing experience promises even more behind-the-scenes access, including moments with the cast, Hairspray fun facts, and fan engagements. Criss will also check in on ’60s-themed viewing parties across the country, including WBAL-TV in Baltimore, MD, where Hairspray is set.
Hairspray Live! also stars Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Ephraim Sykes, Shahadi Wright Joseph, newcomer Maddie Baillio, and special guest stars Andrea Martin, Billy Eichner, and Rosie O’Donnell.
