With the recent premiere of the entertaining and informative "Six By Sondheim," the HBO documentary that explores the work of Tony-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim , it seemed like a good time to revisit six interviews that I conducted in spring 2010 in honor of Sondheim's 80th birthday. The masterful writer celebrates his 84th birthday March 22.
Five women associated with the revered composer — Tony winners Barbara Cook , Patti LuPone , Donna McKechnie , Donna Murphy , Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch — all spoke with deep admiration for the co-creator of Gypsy , West Side Story , Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum , Merrily We Roll Along , Sweeney Todd , Follies , Sunday in the Park with George , Into the Woods , Passion , Anyone Can Whistle , Road Show
