SEATTLE--The first workshop of the new musical version of Don Juan DeMarco, loosely based on the film which starred Marlon Brando, Faye Dunaway and Johnny Depp, will take place at Seattle Repertory Theatre May 17- 24. Although this is only a reading of the show, all performances except the May 17 opening had sold out as this went to press. The stage version of this romantic tale of a psychiatric patient who imagines himself to be the legendary lover Don Juan has a book by Craig Lucas, music by Walter Kennion, and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh, and is directed by Joe Mantello. Veteran musical theatre performers John (Shenandoah) Cullum and Nancy (Do-Re-Mi) Dussault were just cast as the psychiatrist and his wife, while David Verrlarde plays the title role. Seattle performers involved include Eric England, Michael Mendiola and Sandra Singler.
