News Don't Forget About the Boy: Gavin Creel Back in Millie April 9; April 8 Show Canceled The April 8 preview performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie has been canceled "to allow Sutton Foster's understudy, Catherine Brunell, the necessary rehearsal time required for her to have a proper put-in before performing the role in front of an audience," according to a spokesman for the new musical comedy at the Marquis Theatre.

The April 8 preview performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie has been canceled "to allow Sutton Foster's understudy, Catherine Brunell, the necessary rehearsal time required for her to have a proper put-in before performing the role in front of an audience," according to a spokesman for the new musical comedy at the Marquis Theatre.

Foster, who plays Millie, will be joined by her recently sidelined co-star, Gavin Creel, for the April 9 performance. Creel suffered an injury at the March 23 preview matinee of the show and had surgery to correct a popped knee. Since March 25, understudy Brandon Wardell has played the part of romantic lead Jimmy. April 9 marks Creel's first show since his injury.

Not taking it on the chin, the company and creative team have been doing exactly what troupes should be doing in previews — working on the show. A new Act Two song for the character of Muzzy, played by Sheryl Lee Ralph, went into the show the week of April 1. "Ain't No Prohibition on Romance," heard in previews, has been scotched and the new number is called "Long As I'm Here With You."

The new stage musical inspired by the 1967 movie musical began previews at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway March 19. The show is set to open April 18. The role of Jimmy is not necessarily dance-heavy, but in previews there has been a pivotal dance moment for the character. Michael Mayer directs and Rob Ashford choreographs the show by Richard Morris (book), Dick Scanlan (book and lyrics) and Jeanine Tesori (music).

Thoroughly Modern Millie is presented by Michael Leavitt, Fox Theatricals and Hal Luftig, with Stewart F. Lane, James L. Nederlander, Independent Presenters Network, John York Noble, Libby Adler Mages/Mari Glick and Whoopi Goldberg.

The show usually plays 8 PM Tuesday-Saturday, 2 PM Wednesday and Saturday and 3 PM Sunday, but the April 8 and 15 Mondays had been added. Tickets range $55-$95. For tickets, call (212) 307-4100, or in-person at the Marquis Theatre box office (1535 Broadway at 46th Street).

There are no performances Sunday April 14 or Sunday April 21.
