News "Dreamgirls" Hits Third Week at Top of Billboard Soundtrack and R&B/Hip-Hop Charts
For the third consecutive week, the soundtrack to the current movie musical "Dreamgirls" remains atop Billboard's Top Soundtracks and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

The album of the Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen score — released by Music World/Columbia — slid one down this week to No. 2 on The Billboard 200 in its seventh week, following two weeks in the top spot.

Featuring stars Beyoncé Knowles, Anika Noni Rose and Jennifer Hudson as the title trio, the album hits its third week in the No. 1 position on the Top Soundtracks (where the Deluxe Edition also charts at No. 4) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

Over on the Top Cast Album chart, the original cast recording of the Broadway musical — featuring Loretta Devine, Jennifer Holliday and Sheryl Lee Ralph — still enjoys its rebirth. Both the Decca Broadway original 1982 release as well as the recent Hip O/Geffen special edition both hit their fifth week on the chart, holding at No. 5 and 7, respectively.

"Chicago" screenwriter Bill Condon directed and adapted "Dreamgirls," starring Jennifer Hudson as Effie, Beyoncé Knowles as Deena Jones, Anika Noni Rose as Lorrell Robinson, Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr., Eddie Murphy as James "Thunder" Early and Danny Glover as Marty. The film recently received eight Academy Award nominations.
