Jeremy Dobrish, the artistic director of Off-Off-Broadway's successful adobe theatre company [sic], is embarking on a project outside that troupe, directing the new Off-Broadway play, Maybe Baby, It's You. The piece, written and performed by Charlie Shanian and Shari Simpson, will begin performances at the Currican Theatre on July 28 for a run through Aug. 15.
Simpson and Shanian met four years ago while performing improv and soon after began working on what became Maybe, Baby. In the piece, they play eleven couples, each of them searching for the perfect match. Interwoven into the show are the recorded romantic musings of strangers strolling through Central Park, gathered by Simpson and Shanian.
Dobrish directed Duet!, another comical foray into the world of dating and, to date, Abode's biggest production.
The producers of Maybe, Baby hope that the Currican Theatre is only a temporary stop on the way to a commercial run at a larger Off-Broadway theatre.
