John Gabriel Borkman, which will play BAM Jan. 7-Feb. 6, centers on a disgraced man (to be played by Alan Rickman), who is desperate to regain his name after being sent to prison for embezzlement. Shaw will play his estranged wife, while actress Lindsay Duncan is cast as his lover. The production premiered at Dublin's Abbey Theatre last fall.

Shaw will join philosopher Simon Critchley at 7 PM to discuss the longing and emptiness that resonates throughout the on and off-stage lives of Ibsen's characters.

The conversation is presented as part of the Rubin's "Talk About Nothing," a series of on-stage conversations with artists, philosophers, writers and musicians about what "nothing" means.

Shaw's numerous stage appearances include Happy Days, Medea (Tony nomination), Richard II, The Good Person of Sichuan, Hedda Gabler, Machinal, Electra (Olivier Award) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She is known for her roles in the "Harry Potter" films and on HBO's "True Blood."
