Classic Arts News Fire Island Dance Festival Breaks Record Fire Island Dance Festival 13, the feature event of Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA), has raised an unprecedented $300,000, topping last year's figure by almost 40 percent.
The event's three performances, held on the weekend of July 20 and emceed by Whoopi Goldberg and Phylicia Rashad, featured eleven dances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Battleworks Dance Company, The Chase Brock Experience, Corbin Dances, Darrel Grand Moultrie, Jorge Guzman & Willem DeVries, MOMIX, Pascal Rioult Dance Company, Tapaholics, Travis Wall & Ivan Koumaev, and Trey McIntyre Project.

DRA's Choreographic Sponsorships, established last year, resulted in the premiere of six works created expressly for the festival.

The Fire Island Dance Festival was founded in 1995 and has since raised $1,372,393 for Dancers Responding to AIDS, a fundraising program of Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.
