"Beowulf," a masterpiece of world literature, was originally composed in Anglo-Saxon (Old English) between the middle of the seventh and the end of the tenth century A.D. The poem "concerns the deeds of the Scandinavian prince Beowulf, his confrontations and his learning to live with the aftermath," according to press notes.
