News Free Reading of Squire's Sambo Machine Set for Sept. 19 The Great Black Sambo Machine, a new play by Aurin Squire, will be presented Sept. 19 at the Ars Nova.

Part of the free Out Loud reading series, the evening will be directed by Liesl Tommy and will feature the talents of Quincy Tyler Bernstein, Brad Fleischer, Harriet Foy, DeVon Jackson and Nilaja Sun. Show time is 7 PM.

"What happens when the televised world of pimps, music video hoes and Oprah offers you a chance at salvation," reads production notes. "An inconspicuous middle class family’s TV explodes and they suddenly find themselves in a pixilated nirvana where all their dreams can come true for the small price of their souls."

An award-winning playwright, screenwriter and reporter, Aurin Squire's plays include Crash, Defacing Michael Jackson and Match Me. The Out Loud series will continue Sept. 26 with Jason Chimonides' The Optimist.
