The event, featuring melodies of the Strauss family and their contemporaries, is presented on "Great Performances" Jan. 1 at 2:30 PM ET, with an encore performance at 8 PM; check local listings.

Daniel Barenboim conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on the 25th anniversary of their musical collaboration with the general music director of the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

Featuring choreography by Ashley Page and costumes by Vivienne Westwood, both of the Vienna State Ballet's ballet interludes are staged on The City Palace (Stadtpalais Liechtenstein).

The largest worldwide event in classical music, which reaches millions of people annually through radio and television in over 80 countries, was first broadcast on TV in 1959.

Andrews, a three-time Tony nominee (My Fair Lady, Camelot, Victor/Victoria) and Academy Award winner ("Mary Poppins") travels from her home base in the Musikverein hall itself to visit multiple Vienna landmarks, including the Sigmund Freud Museum, the Porcelain Museum in the Augarten, the 900-year-old Klosterneuburg Abbey and the Liechtenstein City Palace.

"As often as I've come to this simply gorgeous city, its beauty and charms enchant me as they did the very first time," Andrews said in a statement. "Each year, I find myself quite swept away by Vienna's extraordinary beauty, and the luscious melodies of the Strauss family and their contemporaries."
