News Gallo, Hilferty Win 2002 ATW Hewes Design Awards Award-winning set designer David Gallo and 2002 Tony Award nominee Susan Hilferty are among the winners of the American Theatre Wing Hewes Design Awards, given out Sept. 13 at a luncheon at Sardi's. Gallo took home the Noteworthy Unusual Effects Award for his effect of repeating clouds against blue sky in Wonder of the World, while Hilferty won for her Into the Woods costumes.

Award-winning set designer David Gallo and 2002 Tony Award nominee Susan Hilferty are among the winners of the American Theatre Wing Hewes Design Awards, given out Sept. 13 at a luncheon at Sardi's. Gallo took home the Noteworthy Unusual Effects Award for his effect of repeating clouds against blue sky in Wonder of the World, while Hilferty won for her Into the Woods costumes.

Louis Thompson won the Scenic Design prize for [sic]. T.J. Gerckens won for his lighting design on Metamorphoses.

The four categories honored by the Hewes, formerly known as the American Theatre Wing Design Awards and, before that, the Maharams, are for Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design and Noteworthy Unusual Effects.

The American Theatre Wing Hewes Design Award winners were decided by Tish Dace, Glenda Frank, Mario Fratti, Mel Gussow, Henry Hewes (for whom the Awards are named), Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, Randy Gener and Joan Ungaro. The Hewes Design Awards are underwritten by the American Theatre Wing.
