Marek Lieberberg, one of the leading concert promoters in Germany, has announced that he is seeking to bring Rent to Cologne. He hopes to stage it in the theater-tent which was built next to the Cologne Cathedral to house Eric Woolfson's musical Gaudi, which recently closed. Impressed by the London premiere of Rent, and convinced that this musical is ideal for Cologne, Lieberberg has contacted the Gaudi producers regarding the use of the theater. He plans to invest 2 million dollars in the production. Lieberberg is aiming for a premiere in February 1999.

Heinz-Rudolf Kunze is presently translating the libretto into German. Rock singer Kunze is already highly-regarded for his translations of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
