Standing next to Hamilton’sMandy Gonzalez at the Café Carlyle as she overlooks Central Park— impeccably dressed with a cocktail in hand—I am keenly aware that I’m living a New York movie moment. “What’s more fabulous then getting dressed up and going to get drinks with your friend at the Carlyle?” she says with infectious excitement. And still, things are things are going to get a bit more fabulous for the star, who has been spending her summer preparing to make her Carlyle debut this October in a new show called Fearless. For Gonzalez, it’s not just another performance, it’s a dream come true. “When you’re younger and want to come to New York, you’re like, ‘Where would be the ultimate place to play?’ For me, it was always the Carlyle.”
Although she is looking toward the fall, Gonzalez still relishes in the joy of performing in Hamilton over the summer. Presently starring as Angelica Schuyler in the Tony Award-winning hit, she reflects, “Every night when Javier Muñoz says ‘Alexander Hamilton,’ the whole audience erupts. I think that it’s not a summer thing, it’s not a fall thing, It’s not a winter thing… It’s a Hamilton thing.”

Gonzalez’s drink of choice: “A manhattan. I feel mysterious with a manhattan, and I like that!”

“Even if you don’t have tons and tons of clothes or tons and tons of money, you can put on a chanel lipstick and go out to drinks with friends or out for coffee and feel fabulous in New York.”

For Gonzalez, the breadth of activities in the summer is enchanting. "You can head to an art museum. You can go to a gallery opening. You can go to the Carlyle on a Saturday with your friends and see an incredible artist that you’ve never seen before. There is just so much to do."

“It’s a brand new show and it’s called Fearless. It’s specifically for the Carlyle and I’m putting it together as we speak – we’re ready to raise the roof!”

“It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s daring, and I think that if you’re going to play the Carlyle, you have to be all of those things.”
