The concert-style theatrical piece, which explores issues of fatherhood, mortality, self-identity, fashion and loss, is directed by Daniel Stern and will run June 3-24. An official opening night is slated for June 10.
Wainwright's father, Loudon Wainwright Jr., wrote a popular column for Life Magazine throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's titled "The View From Here." Billed as a posthumous collaboration with his father, Wainwright's Surviving Twin draws from these writings, weaving with his own music and generations of photographs and films projected on stage.
Surviving Twin received its world premiere in 2013 at Playmakers Rep in North Carolina, where it was directed by producing artistic director Joseph Haj.
Wainwright has recorded 26 studio albums, with "High Wide & Handsome" winning a Grammy in 2010. In 2015 he was awarded BBC 2’s Lifetime Achievement Award for songwriting. Also an actor, he has appeared on Broadway in Pump Boys and Dinettes. He has appeared on TV in "M.A.S.H," "Ally McBeal" and "Parks and Recreation." His film credits include "Big Fish" and "The Aviator."
