The Broadway revival of Grease! will play its 1000th performance Oct. 1.
The cast will celebrate with a post-show party at the Motown Cafe in New York.
Grease!, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, plays at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. It opened May 11, 1994, and has become known for showcasing stars from the pop and TV worlds, including Rosie O'Donnell, Brooke Shields and the current Sheena Easton.
The Jim Jacobs/ Warren Casey musical was a hit Off-Broadway and on Broadway in the early 1970s. The original production (sans exclamation point) ran 3,388 performances and for a time was the longest-running show in Broadway history, before being surpassed by A Chorus Line.
Few revivals have run more than 1000 performances. Others include Oh! Calcutta (which ran years longer than the original production) and the 1992 revival of Guys and Dolls. For a complete rundown on Broadway runs, see the Long Runs on Broadway file in Theatre Features.
