As part of Jason Robert Brown’s ongoing artistic residency at SubCulture, the three-time Tony winner welcomes actor Grace McLean to the downtown music club’s stage October 22 at 8 PM.
McLean co-starred as Marya D in the Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. She also makes appearances with her band, Grace McLean & Them Apples.
Brown’s residency kicked off in December 2014, intended as a one-year engagement. Due to the success of the monthly concert series and Brown’s enjoyment of the venue, the series has continued on. McLean will sing songs from Brown’s catalog and more.
The evening also features bass player and Broadway orchestrator Charlie Rosen. Rosen orchestrated Brown’s Honeymoon in Vegas and has also conducted and played in the Broadway orchestras for such shows as American Psycho and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
Each concert at SubCulture incorporates music from Brown’s shows, such as Parade, 13, Songs for a New World, The Last Five Years, and more, and also includes new works in development. (Brown famously tried out original compositions for the current run of Prince of Broadway at SubCulture before landing on the final number “Do The Work.”)
