Classic Arts News Guitarist Sharon Isbin Featured on Soundtrack of Martin Scorsese's New Film, The Departed Classical guitarist Sharon Isbin is appearing in her first movie soundtrack, Howard Shore's score for Martin Scorsese's new film, The Departed, which opened earlier this month.
Isbin is featured in five songs (totaling 18 minutes), including a seven-minute piece called Billy's Theme for solo guitar and orchestra. She performs on both the song compilation CD (which will be released in early November on Warner Sunset/Warner Bros.) and the score soundtrack CD (which will be released on December 5 on New Line Records). Billy is the title character played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Isbin is a regular performer on major national and international stages and the director of the guitar departments at the Aspen Music Festival and the Juilliard School. In 2004, she was the first guitar soloist in 26 years to perform with the New York Philharmonic; she was also the first guitarist to record with the orchestra.

Howard Shore has also composed soundtracks for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gangs of New York and A History of Violence, among others.
