Written and performed by Hare, Via Dolorosa is a one-man work which follows the personal travels of the scribe to Israel and Palestine. Hare offers his 90-minute portrait of the Jews and Arabs he meets woven together to form a unique and poignant storytelling. Stephen Daldry directed the stagework shot by the film's director John Bailey. The work previously aired on PBS. Via Dolorosa was first staged at London's Royal Court Theatre in 1998 and subsequently produced by Lincoln Center Theatre at Broadway's Booth Theatre in 1999. Hare and Daldry collaborated on both runs.

Hare has also penned the Broadway works Plenty and The Secret Rapture — which he also directed — as well as Racing Demon, Skylight, The Judas Kiss, The Blue Room and Amy's View. The author won the 2003 Writers Guild Award for Best Screenplay for "The Hours" — his adaptation for the Michael Cunningham novel.

Daldry recently directed the Off-Broadway run of Caryl Churchill's Far Away and is reportedly working on bring his staging of the playwright's other work A Number to Broadway. Also in the works is a musical adaption — with composer Elton John — on his film directorial debut "Billy Elliot." Daldry, former artistic director of the Royal Court, also directed An Inspector Calls on Broadway.
