Located in the heart of the city's Gaslamp Quarter, the 83-year-old theatre will reopen and return as a live performance site. The $26.5 million renovation and restoration was supported by the City’s Redevelopment Agency.
The new Balboa Theatre will serve as a home for local non-profit performing arts organizations and further arts education for local youth while presenting a wide variety of entertainment — including theatre, music, dance, and more — from across the country.
Some of the events scheduled follow:
"Emmy and Tony award winner Hal Holbrook brings his tour de force portrayal of Mark Twain combining Twain's sardonic truisms and Holbrook’s impeccable comic timing," according to show notes.
"Artistic director Yuri Peukhov leads the St. Petersburg Ballet in telling Shakespeare's beautifully timeless love story."
"This Tony nominated musical comes to the Balboa Theatre in this all-new production featuring the beloved Arnold Lobel children stories in this musical created for children of all ages."
