News   Houston Run of Brooklyn—The Musical to Be Free of Charge
When the national tour of Brooklyn—The Musical plays Houston, TX, the entire run will be free of charge for theatergoers.

From July 18-23, the Mark Schoenfeld-Barri McPherson musical will be presented by Theatre Under The Stars as the annual free show at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. The musical will play nightly at 8:15 PM.

As previously announced, former "American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo stars in the title role of Brooklyn, which began its tour June 11 at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul, MN. She is joined onstage by Tony Award winner Melba Moore, who portrays Brooklyn's nemesis, Paradice. Cleavant Derricks, who appeared in the New York company, re-creates his role as the Street Singer. The cast also features Julie Reiber as Faith and Lee Morgan as Taylor Collins.

Jeff Calhoun, who directed the Broadway production of the pop musical, also helms the tour, which boasts the original Broadway design team: Ray Klausen (sets), Tobin Ost (costumes), Michael Gilliam (lights) and Duncan Edwards (sound). Emmy Award winner John McDaniel, who penned the musical arrangements and orchestrations, serves as musical supervisor, as he did for the Broadway production.
