The Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship was created to support singer/actors in the greater Dayton area who are pursuing training for a career in musical theatre.
The composer of such shows as Wicked, Pippin, Godspell and Children of Eden said in a statement, "The musical theatre survives and flourishes only with the infusion of new talent. I've always tried to support and encourage emerging talent, and so I am proud and excited to have this new scholarship named for me."
A scholarship in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded to a high school senior who has been accepted into a college to train in musical theatre. Another, in the amount of $3,500, will be awarded to a college student currently training for a career in musical theatre.
Applicants must be from the greater Dayton area, including the counties Montgomery, Preble, Darke, Miami, Clark, Greene, Warren and Butler, or be currently enrolled at a college in one of the eight counties listed.
Preliminary auditions for the Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship will be held this fall, with a final audition scheduled to take place before a live audience at the Loft Theatre in April. Beginning Sept. 24, complete application information will be available at www.humanracetheatre.org.
