The new musical revue, which is based on popular children's literature, will launch the 45th anniversary season of Theatreworks/USA. Directed and choreographed by Kevin Del Aguila, the production will begin previews July 16 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The official opening is scheduled for July 20, and the limited engagement will play through Aug. 18.
Joining Alvin, Austin and D'Abruzzo onstage will be Nick Blaemire, Aurelia Williams and Carla Woods. The creative team also features Rob Odoriso (scenic design), Vaughn Patterson (additional design elements), Martha Bromelmeier (costume design), Tom Sturge (lighting design), Eric Shim (sound design), Jana Zielonka (music direction), Robert Lopez/Jeff Marx (orchestrations) and David Hab/James-Allen Ford (additional orchestrations).
The one-hour musical features eight vignettes, each based on popular children's books, which have been adapted by a mix of songwriters, including Tony-winning Avenue Q composers Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. Featured stories include the following:
"Amazing Grace" by Mary Hoffman, adapted by Kirsten Childs
"Borreguita and the Coyote" by Verna Aardema, adapted by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx
"If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Joffe Numeroff, adapted by Jeremy Desmon and Patrick Dwyer
"Imogene’s Antlers" by David Small, adapted by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx
"Martha Speaks" by Susan Meddaugh, adapted by Arthur Perlman and Jeffrey Lunden
"Master Man” by Aaron Shepard, adapted by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner and James-Allen Ford
"Math Curse" by Jon Scieszka, adapted by Mindi Dickstein and Daniel Messé
"Owen" by Kevin Henkes, adapted by Faye Greenberg and David Evans
Show times are July 16 at 2 PM, July 17 at 10:30 AM, July 18 at 1 and 6:30 PM, July 19 at 1 and 6:30 PM, July 20 at 1 PM at 6:30 PM. From July 21-Aug. 18, show times are Sundays at 2 PM, Mondays at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM, Tuesdays at 1 PM, Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM, Thursdays at 1 and 6:30 PM and Fridays at 1 PM.
Tickets for If You Give a Mouse a Cookie are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the performance at the Lucile Lortel Theatre box office, located at 121 Christopher Street. *
