Good Will, a world premiere adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winning author Jane Smiley's novella, continues its run at The Directors Company through Apr. 4, after opening there Mar. 16.
Adapted by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater from a 1983 Smiley novella, Good Will tells the story of a family that moves to a central Pennsylvania farm in order to escape the frustrations of contemporary society.
Good Will, directed by Phelan, stars Dana Reeve and John Bedford Lloyd. Reeve's credits include Sight Unseen and Liz Swados' The Prince and the Pauper at Manhattan Theatre Club, though these days she's best known for being the supportive real-life wife of paralyzed actor-director, Christopher Reeve. In fact, she's chairman of the board of the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
Rounding out the cast of Good Will are Marj Dusay, Phoebe Jonas, Brenda Pressley, and Michael Phelan.
Celebrating its 15th season, The Director's Company gives young directors the opportunity the work on new plays and musicals, the latter with their Harold Prince Musical Theatre Program. Past veteran directors in their program include Prince, director/composer Stephen Schwartz, Andre Gregory, and Brian Murray. Performances of Good Will runs through April 4 at Theatre 3.
