Classic Arts News Italy's Spoleto Festival Announces Lineup The Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, will include performances of Handel's opera Sosarme, re di Media, the festival announced.
The festival, which runs July 2-17, opens with a concert by the Orchestre National de Belgique, conducted by 26-year-old Mikko Franck. Jean-Yves Thibaudet will perform Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto.

Sosarme, re di Media will feature the Baroque ensemble Il Complesso Barocca, led by Alan Curtis. Jakob Peters-Messer will direct.

Other music highlights include a recital by the piano-playing sisters Katia and Marielle Labque and a concert by the Orchestra Filharmonica di San Pietroburgo led by Yuri Temirkanov.

The dance program includes a gala featuring Jos_ Manuel Carreê±o of the American Ballet Theatre and performances by Interplay Dance Theatre and Elisa Monte Dance.

The Festival of Two Worlds was founded by composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958, and is now directed by his son, Francis Menotti.
