News It's Official: Terrence Mann Returns to Bway Les Miz, Feb. 4-March 15 One of the worst-kept secrets of the current season — the return of Terrence Mann to his Tony Award-nominated role of Inspector Javert in Broadway's Les Misérables — was confirmed by a spokesman for the show on Jan. 20.

Mann's official website had previously announced the casting. Mann returns to the show in its final weeks, Feb. 4-March 15. The Broadway run ends March 15 at the Imperial Theatre. The show's 16th anniversary on Broadway is March 12.

Mann will again play monomaniacal Javert, who hunts down ex-con Jean Valjean (created by Colm Wilkinson in London and on Broadway) in early 19th-century France, as the country roils with political and social change.

Tickets for the last weeks of the show are on sale now through March 9. The anniversary week performances (March 10-15) are not yet on public sale. Since Les Miz will close on a Saturday, the previous Monday has been designated as a performance night.

Continuing in their roles with the Broadway Cast are J. Mark McVey (Jean Valjean), Lauren Kennedy (Fantine), Kevin Kern (Marius), Diana Kaarina (Eponine), Sandra Turley (Cosette), Christopher Mark Peterson (Enjolras), Nick Wyman (Thénardier) and Aymee Garcia (Madame Thénardier).

The production's current Javert, David Masenheimer, plays his final performance Feb. 2. A popular Broadway leading man, Mann starred in the original Broadway casts of Cats (1983, originating the role of Rum Tum Tugger), Les Misérables (1987) and Beauty and the Beast (1993, originating The Beast and earning Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics nominations).

Mann appeared as Javert in the Broadway production of Les Miz from the December 1986 pre-Broadway engagement in Washington, DC, through Nov. 29, 1987. His Broadway credits also include Barnum (Ringmaster, 1980), Rags (Saul, 1986), Jerome Robbins' Broadway (The Narrator, 1989), Getting Away with Murder (Greg, 1996), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Chauvelin, 1997) and The Rocky Horror Show (Frank ‘N Furter, 2001), as well as in Madison Square Garden's A Christmas Carol (Scrooge, 1997) and the original Off-Broadway production of Assassins (Leon Czolgosz, 1991, preserved on a cast album).

Most recently, he appeared Off-Broadway in The Guys (2002). Immediately prior to rejoining Les Miz, he'll appear in Playwrights Horizons' reunion concert presentation of Floyd Collins (Jan. 23-26).

Regionally, Mann is currently the artistic director of The Lost Colony in Maneo, NC.

Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, Les Miz is by Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Music is by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, with original French text by Alain Boublil & Jean-Marc Natel and additional material by James Fenton. Trevor Nunn & John Caird directs.

Les Miz plays the Imperial Theatre, 249 W. 45th Street. For ticket information, call (212) 239-6200.
