As previously reported, Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher (Golden Boy, South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza) is shepherding the project that has a score by Tony winner Brown (Parade, Songs for a New World) and a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden, 'Night Mother).
The reading will be held Jan. 17-25, 2013. Casting will take place in December.
The creative team is seeking a star to portray Robert Kincaid, the role played on film by Clint Eastwood.
Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara portrayed the role of Francesca Johnson in a previous developmental workshop of The Bridges of Madison County. Casting for that role is not being sought for the upcoming reading. Meryl Streep originated the role on film.
The musical is based on the novel by Robert James Waller. It centers on a brief, four-day love affair between a photographer and an Italian-American housewife in 1965 Iowa.
Brown frequently performs songs from the musical during his concerts. Titles include "Wondering" and "Another Life."
